We conduct comprehensive background screening for every candidate we place. It’s that extra level of detail that ensures you can feel confident knowing your new employees are who they say they are.

Companies who engage in background screening as part of their new employee onboarding process have seen an improvement in the quality of new hires, improved staff retention and reduced risk of internal theft and fraud. It’s the first step towards protecting your business and staff from potential risk.

We have partnered with ProbityPeople to provide employment background screening services for our clients. ProbityPeople has been designed specifically for the employment process, making workforce compliance and background screening easy to manage. The online platform gives you total control to process, track and manage all your employment checks. Designed for flexibility, your candidates can log on and complete their required checks in their own time. All results are then safely stored in a secure, online portal so you never have to worry about privacy.

ProbityPeople is an accredited agency with the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) and accredited by the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) as a Stay Smart Online Partner.

Who is ProbityPeople?

Developed for HR managers by a team of specialists with a deep knowledge of the Australian business and employment landscape, ProbityPeople can recommend screening solutions for a broad range of industries because every industry needs a screening solution that is specific to their requirements.

What background checks does ProbityPeople offer?

Police Checks

A Police Check (also known as a Nationally Co-ordinated Criminal History Check) is a critical first step in deciding whether to offer an individual employment with your company. You will reduce the risk of internal fraud and theft, while protecting your staff from potential threats. It is that peace of mind knowing your employees are who they say they are.

A National Police Check provides information on disclosable court outcomes and pending charges sourced from the databases of all Australian police jurisdictions, subject to relevant spent convictions / non-disclosure legislation and / or information release policies. A police check may be used to help screen and make informed decisions for:

  • recruitment and job applications
  • volunteer and not-for-profit positions
  • working with children or vulnerable groups
  • licensing or registration schemes applications
  • work-related checks due to legislation or regulations
  • Australian permanent residence and citizenship
  • visa applications for some countries
  • employment overseas

A National Police Check will detail any disclosable court outcomes or pending charges incurred across all Australian police jurisdictions. This might include:

  • Any conviction sentenced in court
  • Details pertaining to the court, date and location related to the conviction
  • Good behaviour bonds
  • Traffic convictions
  • Charges not yet convicted in court
  • Findings of guilt by a court

Employ has partnered with ProbityPeople to provide National Police Checks for paid employment and Volunteer National Police Checks for individuals who volunteer to work for a charity or Not-for-Profit.

Most National Police Checks are returned within 24 hours. Around 30% of checks are referred to one or more police agencies because a ‘potential match’ is found. On limited occasions, this process can take longer than 10 business days to process, due to the complexity of the check.

ProbityPeople is an accredited agency with the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC).

Financial Checks

If your company operates within the financial services sector or if your employees have access to your company’s financial controls, it’s crucial that you undertake the necessary employment background screening checks to safeguard your business from internal fraud and theft. From bankruptcy checks and credit history checks, to verifying directorships and shareholdings, ProbityPeople offers a comprehensive range of financial background checks for employment to tick every box.

ProbityPeople offers the following Financial Checks:

  • Bankruptcy Checks
  • Credit History Checks
  • Directorship & Shareholdings Checks

Most Financial Checks are returned immediately.

Education & Qualification Checks

Education history is one of the most commonly lied about aspects on a jobseeker’s resume. ProbityPeople’s team of consultants will personally reach out to any Australian institution to verify your applicant’s education and / or qualifications.

ProbityPeople offers the following Education & Qualification Checks:

  • Education Verification
  • Qualification Verification
  • Licence and Membership Checks
  • Registration and Accreditation Verifications

Most Education and Qualification checks are returned within one business day.

Reference Checks

Reference checks are crucial to the hiring process, but they may be time-intensive and often involve more than one phone call. ProbityPeople offers reference checks to suit your hiring needs so you can rest assured that you’re meeting your compliance obligations while focussing on what you do best. They conduct verifications on the reference checks that they process to ensure that both the referee and the candidate are telling the whole truth. A ProbityPeople Reference Check will verify an applicant’s employment dates, job title and relationship with the referee with the relevant HR department or company contact.

Reference Checks

  • Employment Confirmation Checks
  • Comprehensive Reference checks

Most Reference checks are returned within one to two business days.

Work Rights Checks

The Australian Government offers foreign nationals the opportunity to live and work anywhere in Australia under a specific set of conditions as it pertains to the type of visa they have secured to enter the country.

Types of working visas include:

  • Visas for innovation
  • Short stay work visas
  • Temporary work visas
  • Permanent work visas
  • Skilled occupation visas

To ensure that migrant workers have the appropriate visa for the type of work they will be undertaking, and you avoid the heavy penalties associated with employing illegal workers, we recommend a Department of Home Affairs Visa Entitlement Verification.

We have partnered with ProbityPeople to provide Visa Entitlement Verification. You will find out:

  • whether a non-citizen has unrestricted work entitlements, limited work entitlements or no work entitlements
  • visa expiry date (if applicable)
  • information on maximum hours and the type of work permitted under relevant legislation

On average, results of the Visa Entitlement Verification are returned within the hour.
